My mom and I used to make this when I was in elementary school and I would ‘trick’ my teacher into thinking I was eating dirt, yes it was fun as a 4th grader.

Confession: I do not like Oreos.  I know it’s weird.

I’m a chocolate-peanut butter type.

BUT I do love this dessert which includes an entire package of Oreos, just crushed up and dirt-like…go figure…I only like them when they resemble dirt.

Well, this dirt cake made with chocolate pudding is super simple. It contains only has 6 ingredients and is full of chocolate…enough said.

No really, read on and find out how to make this delicious dessert.

Adding spring colored M&Ms adds the perfect touch for serving as an Easter dessert, but of course, you could make this anytime of year.

Now you might be thinking, aren’t there enough sweets associated with Easter? Let’s be real, there are, but if you’re like me I don’t add much (if any) candy to my kids’ Easter baskets.

This year’s baskets include a few books, bubbles, beach towels and bed sheets (yes they are still young enough to be excited for beach towels and bedsheets).

Dirt Delight {Easter Dessert}

A delicious and simple pudding dessert!
Prep Time 1 hour 10 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 package 10 ounces Oreo cookies (include icing centers)
  • 8 ounces neufchatel cheese 1/3 less fat than cream cheese, softened
  • 2 packages 6 ounces instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 5 cups skim milk
  • 8 oz. carton whipped topping thawed
  • Easter M&Ms

Instructions

  • Mix Oreos in a blender until they are dirt-like. Place half of the mix on a bottom of a 9 x 11-inch baking dish.
  • Blend neufchatel cheese in a mixer until creamy.
  • In a large bowl whisk pudding and milk together for 1-2 minutes until well blended.
  • Add pudding mixture into neufchatel cheese mixture and mix until well combined.
  • Fold in the whipped topping.
  • Add the pudding mixture on top of the oreo crumbs in the baking dish. Add the remaining oreo crumbs on top.
  • Top dessert with M&Ms (or chocolate bunnies or Peeps).
  • Chill for at least one hour or overnight before serving.

Notes

For a fun alternative, add the ingredients to a 8 x 10 inch flower pot. Add a test tube or bud vase to insert an artificial flower to the center of the flower pot. Then use colored foil on the outside of the pot to create an illusion of authenticity. You can also add gummy worms to the pudding/dirt mixture.
