Oatmeal Walnut Raisin Scones

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat white flour
  • 1 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/2 cup butter 1 stick
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup milk + 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • sugar for topping optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 375°F.
  • Combine all dry ingredients.
  • Add cold butter to dry ingredients using a pastry cutter or your fingers until mixture resembles small crumbles.
  • Add the egg, milk, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Stir well.
  • Stir in walnuts and raisins.
  • Place dough on a flour covered cutting board. Shape into a large circle and cut into 8 triangle shapes.
  • Place scones onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
  • Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
