Berries and Hemp Smoothie Bowl

This Berries and Hemp Smoothie Bowl is a simple way to mix up your boring recipe routine with protein, fruit and dairy all in one!

This month’s Recipe Redux is “Break Out of Breakfast Boredom.” I can totally relate to this since I typically eat the same breakfast 99% of the time. If you’re wondering it’s this homemade granola and vanilla yogurt. However, lately I’ve finally gotten with the program and started making smoothies. I can’t tell you the last time I made a smoothie until I created this Wild Blueberries and Pomegranate Smoothie. So naturally the next thing on the list to make was smoothie bowls.

You may be thinking, isn’t that just a smoothie in a bowl? Why not just make a regular smoothie? Well, I thought the same thing until I started looking at several recipes and discovered they are not quite your typical smoothie. Of course, you add basically the same type of ingredients, however, smoothie bowls are meant to be thicker than smoothies (thus eaten in a bowl), and they are meant to have toppings. And the toppings are the BEST part! Not only can you add anything you have on hand, you can also make a topping bar for your kids to choose what they want to add. And when kids have choices, they are much more likely to try new foods!

Dietitian’s Dish

This smoothie bowl is packed with nutrients including fiber, protein and even omega 3 fats (found in chia seeds and hemp protein powder). The hemp protein powder also provides protein and fiber and it’s a complete protein, meaning it contains all 8 essential amino acids that our bodies cannot produce on their own.
