10 Healthy Grab and Go Snacks for Summer

grab and go snacks

Looking for snacks to grab and go all summer long that are not only healthy but also won’t melt in your hand?  Check out these 10 healthy options that are sure to have you coming back for more!

We are constantly on the go, especially in the summer.  Whether it’s swim lessons, splash pads, parks or just play dates at friends’ house, the kids and I love to go go go.  And on the weekends when my husband is home,we love spending time together out and about.  So obviously we need snacks that are quick, healthy and don’t melt in the car.  Well I have to admit we do snack on pretzels and veggie sticks at times since they are so easy to bring along, however, I also love these snacks listed below that are a bit healthier than your typical salty snacks but just as delicious.

Some of these snacks require refrigeration, but packing a cooler with some ice packs only takes a few extra minutes and is definitely worth it!

1.  Hummus and raw vegetables: these individual hummus containers are perfect for on the go and great served with carrot sticks, cucumber slices or sliced peppers. Sabra Classic Hummus

2.  Mixed nuts: my family loves any kind of nuts so we always have them on hand (nuts are a choking hazard for young children so keep those for the adults if you have young ones).

3.  Fresh fruit: you can always grab bananas, but you may also want fresh seasonal fruit like strawberries and watermelon.  My favorite way to grab and go fresh fruit is to cut them up ahead of time and store them in Rubbermaid plastic containers so they can easily be added to a cooler.

4. Simply Snackin®: these protein-rich snacks include dried beef, chicken breast and venison with tons of variety, you’re sure to find several flavors you love!  My 4 year old actually loves beef jerky so I was thrilled to find these as a health option.  Check out their multitude of flavors here.

5.  Peanut butter and raw vegetables: protein is always a fantastic snack, especially a favorite like peanut butter (or your favorite nut butter).  I love the individual containers of peanut butter but they can be pricey.  So I will prepackage my own portions of peanut butter using my smallest Rubbermaid containers.  Then when you’re ready to go just a container and a bag of raw vegetables and you’re off.

6. Bare Snacks Apple Chips: these individual dried fruit snacks are an excellent and tasty prepackaged snack that kids and adults are sure to enjoy.  Their flavors include: Fuji Apple, Cinnamon Apple, Caramel Apple and Granny Smith Apple Chips.

7.  Dried Fruit: I typically buy dried fruit such as raisins or craisins at Sam’s Club (our local membership warehouse store) since it saves money and allows me to package them in proper portion sizes.

8.  Cheese Sticks: there is so much variety with cheese sticks these days that I prefer to choose the 2% Colby Jack or string cheese options.  Kids absolutely love cheese sticks too!

9.  Yogurt: individual non-fat yogurt containers are an excellent snack for on the road.  Buy greek yogurt and you’re adding even more protein to your day.

10.  Homemade muffins or energy bites: I love to keep homemade snacks around like my favorite Healthy Banana Nut Bread Mini Muffins or these No-Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Bites.

I hope these ideas help you to eat healthy while enjoying summer time.  What healthy snacks do you enjoy while on the road?

When I'm traveling I find that carrots, grapes, nut butters, and hard boiled eggs are easiest to pack along for the ride!

That's a great list! I never travel anywhere without one (or many) snacks. I think I need to invest in some mini tubberware for nut butter - that's a smart idea!
